Permanent E-mail

We are pleased to offer a free e-mail forwarding service that will allow Georgetown alumni to keep one permanent e-mail address. You can share this address with friends and family and not worry about changing it when you move, change jobs, or switch internet service providers (ISPs).

Here's how it works:

  1. Choose your permanent e-mail address. For example, if your name were Sam Wilkes, you might sign up as SamWilkes@alumni.georgetowncollege.edu.

  2. Designate the e-mail address you would like to receive email at. All e-mail sent to your alumni e-mail address will automatically be forwarded to the address that your current Internet service provider hosts - wilkes@yahoo.com, SW1798@hotmail.com, etc., whatever address you choose to enter.

This free service is provided as a courtesy for all registered members of the Online Alumni Community.

Why should I have an alumni.georgetowncollege.edu e-mail address?

The your.name@alumni.georgetowncollege.edu address is a free forwarding service for Georgetown alumni. Once acquired, you will never have to notify your family and friends when you change your e-mail address. It's also a great way to show your pride in being an alumnus of Georgetown.

Is this an Internet service?

No, the permanent e-mail forwarding service does not include access to the Internet, nor is it an e-mail service provider. This address is a forwarding service for people who already have an e-mail account.

How should I choose my permanent e-mail forwarding address?

The system is designed to allow members to choose their own "alias" (the part of the e-mail address before the "@" sign). Many Carolina alumni prefer to use their real name and class year so lost friends can easily guess where to send them e-mail. Some suggested formats include:

  • wilkes.sam@alumni.georgetowncollege.edu
  • wilkes.sam1798@alumni.georgetowncollege.edu
  • swilkes@alumni.georgetowncollege.edu

User names that might be considered purposely misleading (such as webmaster@alumni.georgetowncollege.edu or President_Crouch@alumni.georgetowncollege.edu) or vulgar, will not be allowed.

Suppose I change my Internet Service Provider or e-mail account?

If you change your e-mail service you will want to update the forwarding address for your e-mail permanent email. Return to the Alumni home page and select the Permanent E-mail option. Enter your User ID and password to log-in and then supply the new e-mail address to which your mail should be forwarded.
